The downtime was due to a failed upgrade of the Expresion Engine CMS this site runs on. Apparently I did something wrong that caused all files to be served as (x)html, including the stylesheets and rss and atom feeds. But a reinstall got things going again, and I only lost a few images. I now run the Expression Engine Personal version, which means I’ve paid for a license (gasp!). The support has been great so far, so I’m en route to becoming an EE enthusiast!
I’m going to expand the site with some sites I recommend (looking into interfacing with del.icio.us for that), information about myself (looking into interfacing with LinkedIn for that), as well as some info about my work so far.
And like I said, I’ve also added a section for the webhosting activity I undertake (I’m a reseller for Surpass Hosting). You can now sign up for HerkoCoomans.net Friends & Family webhosting, where you get quality hosting for relatively low pricing. Surprisingly, I now host about 40 co-workers, friends and familymembers.
One of the goals of all the work I do is to get an attractive, accessible and validated website. So far, I’m focussing my attention on the homepage, and after that the weblog posts and comments and then the other pages. It looks nice now, but there’s still a lot to do!
So, hang on in there, check back regularly and let me know what you think!

I’ve been using EE for both personal and professional projects for about a year and a half now, and I’m continually impressed at EE’s power and flexibility. Add to that a vibrant users’ community, and a very open and helpful development staff, and I’ve never looked back since making the jump to EE.
